future development

the birthing team

The Jentle Childbirth Foundation is fundraising in order to continue to develop in the following areas:

· Jentle Education & Training: (i) we intend to arrange further study days in order to disseminate as widely as possible the JCF philosophy; (ii) we are aiming to develop antenatal packs for parents that are user friendly (iii) we are developing educational films, CDs and other teaching material. In particular we hope to produce an educational ante-natal DVD that is accessible for first time parents based on talking heads of a range of mothers, midwives and obstetricians with a variety of labour and pregnancy experiences intercut with graphics of key stages of labour which will assist mothers in visualisation and will help to dispel common fears surrounding childbirth.

· Jentle Roll Out: (i) we would welcome working with the NHS to develop a midwifery polyclinic in a socially deprived area linked to QCCH and (ii) we are developing a facility for interactive discussions with women via our website where birth issues could be explored fully in a web forum.

· Jentle Nurturing: we are working with the NHS to soften mainstream labour wards in and beyond QCCH: (i) as well as the Caribbean Room at QCCH we intend to create a womb room on the mainstream labour ward that will provide a safe, nurturing and relaxing environment for mothers which we hope will be an example that can be used on all mainstream labour wards and (ii) we intend to provide more double bedrooms.

· Jentle One-to-One: We want to provide at QCCH 24 hour on call and text messaging for mothers. The Jentle Midwifery Scheme consumer survey showed that women like to have a mechanism where they could make contact with their midwife and texting was a simple way of keeping contact in non-urgent situations

· Jentle Research: A further large study is planned to examine the technique of the natural caesarean amongst others.
